SIMON'S ROOTS
THE EXCITEMENT OF THE NEW, THE KNOWLEDGE OF GENERATIONS.
How can a young winery already posses over 100 years of experience? Through the strength of family. Simon is the fourth generation to produce wine in the Loiben Kellergasse and it is from the previous generations that he draws his knowledge—an invaluable asset, Simon knows. The Gattinger family’s tradition of winemaking began in 1912 with Simon's great grandfather Anton, who was also a founding father of the Wachau Winemaker’s Association Dinstl-Gut. Then grandfather Leopold took over, later followed by his father Leo, who concentrated solely on grape production over the years.

Early on, Simon knew:
This is exactly where I will make wine again.
MY WINE!
The passion was always there. Knowledge and inspiration came from his studies and internships. Then, together with the desire to build something new in the Wachau, it all became the perfect mix to found Simon Gattinger Winery in 2017. 2023 saw the reconstruction of the historic cellar into a modern facility in three levels, designed to utilize the force of gravity alone to bring the must into the cellar. Some call it sustainable. Simon believes that one should simply utilize the knowledge of generations to make wine with a future. Clear and precise. Just as Simon sees the Wachau.

FAMILY
MATTERS
Wine is not made alone. Especially in the Wachau, where every movement requires feeling, where every touch requires experience. That’s why Sissy and Leo Gattinger support their son in caring for the vineyards. Marketing and Public Relations are in the hands of Simon’s partner, Marlies. Together, they create what makes Simon Gattinger Winery so special from the start: the excitement of the new, built on the knowledge of generations.
